However, just south of Tijuana, in Baja California's Valle de Guadalupe, rich and textured Mexican wine is being made in abundance. This off-the-beaten path destination has attracted attention for its lazy charm and incredible food, but it's the wine that anchors this piece of Baja peninsula. Every August, wineries such as Casa De Piedra, Viñas de Garza, Vena Cava Vinícola, Las Nubes Bodegas y Viñedos, Lechuza, Adobe Guadalupe and Monte Xanic celebrate the harvest for a two+ week period known as Fiesta de la Vendemia. Parties ensue, lingering lunches (comidas) last all day, and the wine flows.
